Ultimate Ears has been around for quite some time providing in-ear monitoring devices for performing musicians. I was so surprised to see them at an In-Motion video store in the Atlanta airport. I was able to take a look at what they had and through I would try the Super.Fi 3 Studio.

The Super.fi 3 has a single driver to take care of presenting the audio. They come in various color schemes and the one I chose was black. When I first put them in and started listening I could not believe the sound compared to the stock earphones that came with my player. It was as if the music came to life.

The Super.fi 3s came with a nice set of accessories. Several replacement ear-tips, a headphone adapter in order for you to use the earphones with various players, a volume attenuator and the all-important earphone cleaning tool. They also provide a metal case to carry everything in.

The overall sound as I said was very nice, and had a bright and crisp feel to it. I did miss feeling a little more on the low end of things. The bass was nice and tight but I wish I could have felt it a little more.

Also the wire used for the Super.fi 3s was to me a little bulky and sometimes hard to manage. It also seemed to project the sound of bumping the cable to the earphones so you had to be careful how you ran the cable. I did like the memory wire. This allowed you to really get a custom and secure fit when you were wearing the earphones.

The metal case also seemed a little hard for me to manage at times as getting things together when changing flights can be a little hectic. The attenuator though is a great accessory if you listen to on board audio when flying. Airlines are notorious for pushing high volumes out of the armrest audio so not only do you not want to damage your earphones, more importantly you do not want to damage your ears. The attentuator really made the volume more manageable and enjoyable, if you can ever call onboard audio enjoyable.
